Akshardham attack: Mufti gives clean chit to Zargar
Saturday, September 13 2003 19:17 Hrs (IST)
Vadodara: Giving a clean chit to his Agriculture Minister Abdul Aziz Zargar, who resigned over allegation
that Akshardham attack in Gandhinagar was planned from his residence, Jammu and Kashmir Chief
Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on September 13 said the former was not involved in any terrorist
activity.
Talking to reporters at the end of his two-day visit to Anand town, about 35 kms from Vadodara, Sayeed
said, "Zargar has not been using his house located in Muzagam village for the past many years...so
question of his involvement in planning the attacks by terrorists does not arise."
Zargar has already issued a statement saying charges against him were "baseless".
Sayeed said that even during Assembly poll campaign, Zargar never visited his home in the village and
conducted his campaign from the district headquarters located in Jammu.
Mufti also denied that there was any pressure from his coalition partner Congress, to seek Zargar's
resignation in the wake of criticism by the National Conference and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the
state.
