'No chance of reconciliation in Hurriyat factions'
Sunday, September 14 2003 13:07 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Dismissing any possibility of reconciliation, the interim chairman of breakaway faction of Hurriyat Conference Masrat Alam on September 14 said there was no place for People's Conference lead by Sajjad Gani Lone and Muslim Conference of Abdul Gani Bhat in the amalgam.

"There is no possibility of reconciliation with those who have deviated from the objectives of the Hurriyat Conference," Alam told reporters in Srinagar.

Alam, who was released from jail earlier this year, said the breakaway group will not attend the meeting convened by former Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq aimed at reconciling the differences between the two factions.

There was no place for Lone brothers -- Sajjad and Bilal -- and Bhat in the new Hurriyat structure as they had violated the amalgam's rules and regulations, he said, adding "we have recognised G N Sumjhi as head of Muslim Conference while G M Hubbi will lead the People's Conference".

Asked if there was any place for deposed chairman Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari in the new formation, Alam said he is welcome only as the head of Ittehadul Muslimeen.

On Ansari's removal, he said a no-confidence motion was passed against him as he had failed to take action against Lone brothers for allegedly taking part in last year's Assembly polls.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who is considered as the mastermind behind Hurriyat split, said forum and platforms can be sacrificed if they do not fulfil their objectives.
