NRI accused of attempted abduction surrenders
Sunday, September 14 2003 13:01 Hrs (IST)

London: A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) who reportedly fled to India after a London tabloid accused him of trying to abduct a child, has returned to Britain and gave himself up to police.

Karan Singh Randhawa of West Drayton, Middlesex, was questioned at Charing Cross Police Station in London and was freed on bail until January, police said on September 14 night.

The 30-year old father of two was suspended from his job as a neighbourhood warden at Kingston Council in July following reports that he met an undercover reporter of 'Sunday Mirror', believing her to be a 12-year-old girl he had contacted through the internet.

Detectives later seized a computer from his home.

A spokesman for Kingston Council said, "Randhawa remains on suspension. The council are working in conjunction with the police on this."
