Bangalore: The BAD Quiz for a Good Cause reported by this portal a week ago was conducted on September 13, 2003 at Guru Nanak Bhavan, Bangalore.

The quiz was organised to raise funds for Rural IT quiz 2002 champion, Pradeep from Tumkur, who met with an unfortunate accident in January 2003 and was in coma for four months. He is still undergoing treatment but improving steadily.

An overwhelming response from corporates and colleges across South India marked the Business and Advertising quiz making the auditorium seem like an inter school event as quizmaster Pickbrain remarked.

193 teams went through a round of prelims and six top teams – Ferguson Consulting, Cipher Consulting, Infosys, Iflex, Medismith pharma from Hyderabad and Vanish Inc from Chennai made it to the final, with Chennai taking the top honours followed by Hyderabad in a keenly contested final.

As a mark of support to Pradeep, teams from Sarvodaya PU College Tumkur came down to take part in the quiz. They received a special award from the Dean of the Institute for Technology and Management (ITM), Wing Commander Babu.

Pradeep’s family represented by his father and brother received a cheque of Rupees One Lakh from Mr. N.Subramaniam, Vice President and head of Bangalore Operation, Tata Consultancy Services. The family would receive close to another lakh from the participation fee collected by the students of ITM who managed the entire event.

Dr.Rajkumar D A, from Manipal Hospital who has been largely responsible for the recovery of the boy was present on the occasion and was thanked by the quizmaster and an appreciative audience. Pradeep’s brother Pravin thanked TCS, the doctors and all participants for standing by his brother and supporting the family.
