Tuesday, September 16 2003 22:53 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Britain on September 16 proposed expansion of air links with India to make travel easier and
quicker.
"We discussed increasing air links between London and other cities in the United Kingdom and those in
India to make travel easier and quicker," Lord Mayor of the city of London Alderman Gavyn Arthur told
reporters after a 30-minute meeting with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in New Delhi.
Arthur, who also met Finance Minister Jaswant Singh earlier in the day, described India as an emerging
global economic superpower and said financial institutions and investors in the UK wanted to work more
closely with their counterparts in India.
Arthur, who visited Mumbai, Hyderabad and Shimla in the last one week, said his country had great
confidence in the Indian economy.
He maintained that the liberalisation process in the last couple of years had transformed the country.
Arthur, who was accompanied by British High Commissioner Rob Young, discussed bilateral relations in
other fields and said UK valued its ties with India.
