JeM hideout busted, huge cache of explosives recovered

Srinagar: On the heels of killing of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) chief commander Gazi Baba, Border
Security Force (BSF) busted a hideout of the Pakistan-based militant outfit in downtown Srinagar and
recovered a huge cache of arms and explosives.
Acting on specific information, BSF personnel raided the hideout at Gogwara-Nowhatta early on
September 16 morning and recovered two carbines, a Sten gun, 47 grenades, four wireless sets – one
fitted with an improvised explosive device (IED) and a huge quantity of explosives, a BSF spokesman
said.
Describing it as a "major blow" to the JeM outfit in the city, the spokesman said Gogwara-Nowhatta area
was the hub of militancy in early 1990s.
Meanwhile, a defence spokesman said troops unearthed two militant hideouts in Machil and Murdari Gali
in frontier Kupwara district and recovered 10 kgs of PEK (explosive), two RGP bombs, two AK
magazines, 157 rounds of rifle ammunition, two hand grenades, two Bouants (ammunition), 420 rounds
of AK ammunition and nine UBGL grenades.
Gazi Baba was killed in an operation by the security forces at Noowbagh-Qammerwari in Srinagar on
August 30.
