Hemayetuddin-Bangladesh's new envoy to India

Dhaka: Bangladesh on September 17 appointed career diplomat Hemayetuddin as its new High Commissioner to India.

An official announcement made in Dhaka said Hemayetuddin, currently Bangladesh's Ambassador to Thailand, would be the country's next High Commissioner to India, succeeding Tofail K Haider, who retires in December.

Hemayetuddin, who uses one name, joined the Bangladesh information service in 1974 and was absorbed into the foreign service the following year.

Before being posted in Thailand early 2001, Hemayetuddin has served in Bangladesh missions in Beijing, Washington, Brussels and also in New Delhi in various capacities.
