HC allows release of 'Boom'; Big B's dues settled
Friday, September 19 2003 20:15 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: The Mumbai High Court allowed the release of Hindi film 'Boom' from September 19 in theatres all over the country after its producer agreed to settle dues of mega star Amitabh Bachchan who plays the lead role in the film.

Bachchan had moved the court urging for an order to restrain the producer from releasing the film unless his dues were settled. Hearing his plea earlier, the court had granted an injunction against the release of the movie.

Both Bachchan and producer Ayesha Shroff, wife of actor Jackie Shroff, filed consent terms in the High Court saying they had settled the dispute. Accordingly, the court allowed the release of the film but continued its restrain order on the satellite broadcast of the film.

As per the consent terms, on receipt of Rs 25 lakhs and post-dated cheques for Rs 30 lakhs by the mega star, the distributors, Adlabs Ltd, would be at liberty to deliver the prints for release of the film all over the country.

Producer Ayesha Shroff of Quest films gave an undertaking that all the cheques issued by her would not be dishonoured and also she would not instruct her bankers to stop payment of the cheques.

The undertaking was given by her as Bachchan had pleaded that earlier cheques had been dishonoured and the producer had instructed bankers to stop payment.

Bachchan had signed a contract of Rs 2.5 crore in April last year with the producer for acting in the film. He was paid Rs 20 lakhs and Rs 1 crore by cheques in instalments but the balance instalments of Rs 30 lakhs and Rs one crore was not paid by the producer, he said.
