CBI arrests BSNL GM Panwar on corruption charges

New Delhi: R P S Panwar, General Manager of public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly amassing assets over Rs 1.5 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income.

CBI, which had launched searches at his premises and registered a case against him, arrested the official on September 18, agency sources said on September 19.

The sources claimed that the searches showed that the accused possessed flats in Ghaziabad and Moradabad, six shops in Ghaziabad, farmhouses in Mehrauli, six plots in Noida, Mumbai and Haridwar and vast agriculture land in Haridwar. As much as Rs 24 lakh bank balance also came to light, they said.
