Maya demands white paper on properties owned by PM
Friday, September 19 2003 16:51 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Accusing Manuwadi forces of hatching a "well thought out conspiracy to malign her image" in
the wake of Supreme Court directive to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a first information
report (FIR) against her in the Taj Heritage Corridor project, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister
Mayawati on September 19 demanded a "White Paper" on the properties owned by political leaders and
their relatives, including the Prime Minister.
She also rejected reports about her involvement in the scam in the Taj project, saying efforts were being
made to link her with the issue to malign her.
"I demand that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee should order an impartial probe by a committee or
by a person with impeccable character on the properties owned by the political leaders and their
relatives and come out with a white paper on its findings," the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) vice president
told reporters here a day after the SC directive.
She came down heavily on the media for reports that she had acquired a number of properties and
alleging involvement in the Taj Corridor Project and said, "These reports were wrong, biased aimed at
tarnishing my and my party's image."
Threatening to expose those involved in such tactics at an appropriate time, Mayawati said she has
nothing to do with the controversial Taj project and expressed surprise why CBI and Income Tax officials
were inquiring about her properties when she has already submitted all the details when filed IT returns.
