2 PWG naxals gunned down by police in Andhra

Guntur: Two naxals of People's War Group (CPI-ML) were gunned down by police in an exchange of fire in Chityal Forest in Belamkonda Mandal in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh on September 19.

Police said a combing party spotted a group of naxals in the forest area and asked them to surrender. However, the ultras opened fire, which was returned by the police, killing the two on-the- spot.

Others, however, managed to escape from the spot, police said, adding that the deceased were identified as G Vevaratnam (40) and C Anji (35) of Belamkonda squad of PWG.

Police also found naxal literature and a gun at the scene of the encounter.
