15 foreign students held in Pak for anti-state deeds
Saturday, September 20 2003 18:54 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Pakistan police on September 20 announced the arrests of 15 foreign students in Karachi for involvement in activities against the security of the country, hours before President Pervez Musharraf left for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Thirteen of the arrested students belong to Malaysia and two others to Indonesia, state-run Pakistan television said, adding the concerned governments have been informed and they have cancelled no objection certificates for their stay in Pakistan.

The arrested students will be handed over to their countries after interrogation and completion of other legal requirements, the report said.

It did not mention when the students were arrested and whether they belonged to any religious seminary or other institution. The report also did not specify their "anti-state" activities.
