PM to decide on Joshi after consulting colleagues
Saturday, September 20 2003 12:09 Hrs (IST)

New York: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will take a decision on the resignation of Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi after "consultation with his colleagues".

A spokesperson told reporters that Vajpayee, on arrival in New York, "has been in touch" with Joshi, who resigned after a Special Court in Rae Bareli decided to frame charges against him and six others in the Babri Masjid demolition case on September 19.

The Prime Minister, who arrived in New York on a week-long visit during which he will address UN General Assembly, would decide about the future course of action "in consultation with his colleagues", the spokesperson said.

On September 19, the Prime Minister in Istanbul had asked Joshi to reconsider his decision saying it was taken in haste without waiting for party's word.

The court in Rae Bareli had discharged Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani but decided to frame charges against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders Ashok Singhal, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmiya and Sadhvi Ritambhara, in the Babri case.
