'BJP not playing 'hindutva' card in Assembly polls'
Saturday, September 20 2003 18:58 Hrs (IST)
Bhopal: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Labour Minister Sahib Singh Verma on
September 20 said his party is not playing 'hindutva' card in coming Assembly polls in some states,
including Madhya Pradesh, but banking on the "achievements" made by Vajpayee government at the
Centre.
"It is not a question of 'hindutva'…BJP-led government's performance at the Centre has enhanced
people's confidence in the party. All sections of society including farmers are happy with our
achievements," he told reporters.
Verma asserted that all lapses experienced during the 1998 Assembly elections were being removed
and if some weaknesses were still left, these would be removed well ahead of the polls.
Though BJP could not form government in Madhya Pradesh in 1998, its performance in the elections
was quite good and "this time we are confident of forming government in Madhya Pradesh as well as
Delhi", he said.
"Workers in Madhya Pradesh and other states going to poll are upbeat and working with determination
to ensure victory for the party," Verma said.
Asked whether there were differences among leaders, Verma said, "There is none, but if at all we find
any, it will be settled. The party is as united as ever."
On Rae Bareilly's special court order on framing of charges against several BJP leaders in Babri Masjid
demolition case, Verma said they would be ultimately proved clean and innocent.
