Madhumita case: Ex-UP minister Tripathi arrested
Sunday, September 21 2003 20:44 Hrs (IST)

Lucknow: Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amar Mani Tripathi was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on September 21 in connection with the poetess Madhumita Shukla murder case.

The arrest followed the matching of the blood samples of Tripathi and the foetus of the slain poetess in a DNA test, a CBI spokesman in Delhi said.

Tripathi was interrogated by a five-member CBI team.

Sources said the CBI team reached Tripathi's residence and took him to the agency's office for questioning.

24-year-old poetess Madhumita Shukla was killed at her residence in Lucknow on May 9 by two assailants.

The killing had created a political furore leading to the sacking of Tripathi from the then Mayawati-led government in the state. The case was later handed over to the CBI.
