Victims' statements recorded on humanitarian grounds
Monday, September 22 2003 21:01 Hrs (IST)
Ahmedabad: The Commission probing post-Godhra communal riots on September 22 on 'humanitarian
grounds' recorded the statement of a minority community victim whose son was allegedly shot dead by
policemen on May 7, 2002, even though the panel was only hearing complaints about incidents, which
occurred up to April 30.
Though the Commission members -- Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (retd) K G Shah -- recorded
the statement of Zahid Kadri about his son's death in Maninagar area, the Commission did not
guarantee that it would be considered during the final report.
Kadri said that on May 7, several policemen including senior officials allegedly stormed their locality and
rounded several youths and took them to the terrace of a house.
"The policemen then stripped them naked including my teenage son, told them to lie flat on the ground
and pumped bullets into him and killed him on the spot," Kadri said.
He said another youth was also shot dead from point-blank range in the same manner while a third one
bled to death in the hospital.
The Commission on September 22 recorded statements of over 224 riot victims/witnesses in separate
batches.
