Sri Lanka hopes to increase flights to India
Monday, September 22 2003 18:25 Hrs (IST)

Colombo: Sri Lanka wants to take up the issue of increasing flights to Indian destinations with External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha in October, a top official said on September 22.

Tourism Ministry secretary P Ramanujam said the island nation was keen to ask for India's support to increase the number of flights, currently restricted as a result of bilateral agreements.

"One of the key things we would like to take up with the Foreign Minister is the question of flights to Indian destinations," Ramanujam said.

Sinha was due to visit Colombo in August, but he put off his visit because of a no-confidence vote against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, officials said.

He is now expected to visit Colombo on October 14 and return on October 16.
