Vajpayee holds talks with Afghan President Karzai
Tuesday, September 23 2003 22:35 Hrs (IST)
New York: Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on September 23 met Afghanistan President Hamid
Karzai and exchanged views on the developments in the war-ravaged country where India is engaged in
the rebuilding process.
New Delhi has voiced its serious concerns over the re-grouping of Taleban and al-Qaida elements, who
had taken refuge in Pakistan during the US-led action to oust the Taleban forces.
Vajpayee is understood to have extended India's continued support for the ongoing rebuilding efforts.
India is sore over Pakistan posing needless obstacles to Indian aid for Afghanistan going through its
territory.
During his day's hectic engagements, Vajpayee met his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe
and discussed developments in the Norwegian efforts to bring peace in the island nation.
He also had another bilateral meeting with his counterpart from Portugal Jose Manauel Durao Barroso.
