Tuesday, September 23 2003 11:25 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: SENSEX opened on a weak note but gradually picked up strength on some low level buying, however, was quoted lower than yesterday's (Sep 22) close.

The BSE-30 Index resumed with overnight weakness at 4138.01 and fell further sharply to a low of 4111.54 as share values, especially in the IT segments, fell down. Brokers, to some extent, attributed the initial selling to yesterday's imposition of special margin on 101 scrips by BSE.

However, investors got some confidence and did good low level buying. Later, shares picked up strength and the SENSEX improved to quote at 4149.98 at 10.30 am, still lower than previous close of 4151.72.

Among the top gainers, Indhot firmed up by 4.21 per cent, Titind by 3.78 per cent, Jinstpo by 3.01 per cent, Moserbar 2.63 per cent, Bilt by 2.45 per cent, Sail by 2.28 per cent, ICI by 2.09 per cent, Tisco by 2.07 per cent, Telco by 1.98 per cent and Bomdying by 1.91 per cent.

However, Padmate declined by 3.86 per cent, Sterlite by 2.78 per cent, Rashchm 2.72 per cent, Hugessoft 2.55 per cent and UTI Bank by 2.54.
