SC verdict on PSUs: Govt looking at alternatives
Thursday, September 25 2003 14:01 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: In the wake of the recent Supreme Court verdict halting disinvestment in oil public sector undertakings (PSUs) HPCL and BPCL, Disinvestment Ministry would prepare a paper specifying various alternatives including a review, for consideration of the Cabinet Committee on Disinvestment.

Disinvestment Minister Arun Shourie, who met Law Minister Arun Jaitley on September 25 to discuss the ramifications of the apex court judgement, said there were "several options" before the government including a review or seeking clarifications.

"Jaitley and I discussed features of the judgement and its consequences and considered several options. We will prepare a paper and submit it to Jaitley tomorrow," Shourie said emerging from the meeting, which lasted over half-an-hour.
