New Delhi: Setting the tone for the September 26 trade unions' convention, representatives of state and
Central government employees on September 25 gave a three-month ultimatum to the Centre to meet
their demands, including restoration of right to strike, which was turned down by the Supreme Court
recently.
"If the government does not frame a new set of rules and ratify various ILO (International Labour
Organisation) conventions, including the one which gives government employees right to strike, within
the next three months, we may be forced to go on strike, Confederation of Central Government
Employees and Workers president S K Vyas said.
Briefing on outcome of the day-long meeting of All India State Government Employees' Federation and
the Confederation, he said a draft declaration was finalised as per which a mass petition will be
submitted to Parliament by December demanding ratification of relevant ILO conventions so that
government employees enjoy full union rights, including right to strike.
