Ram temple construction not a poll issue: VHP

Jodhpur: The recent Rae Bareli court order framing charges against its top brass notwithstanding, the
Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on September 25 ruled out any role in the coming Assembly elections
saying it did not consider construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya to be an election issue.
"For us, construction of the temple in Ayodhya is a matter of faith and not an election issue," VHP's
firebrand general secretary Praveen Bhai Togadia told reporters.
It is up to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to decide if they wanted to support the
faith of Hindus, he said.
Asserting that VHP did not believe in any violent agitation over the Ayodhya issue, Togadia said the
Sangh Parivar outfit would certainly create such a situation through mass mobilisation that no political
party could go against the wishes of the majority community, he said.
Togadia advocated a "Hindu rule" in the country by defeating secular forces which were "enabling
terrorism to flourish and fidayeen attacks to continue in the country".
Referring to Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) findings that a temple predated the demolished
structure at Ayodhya, Togadia asked Muslim leaders to apologise for opposing construction of the Ram
temple there.
Hindu community would launch a movement to free all 30,000 temples converted into mosques during
Muslim rule if Muslims remained adamant over Ayodhya, he warned.
Togadia said VHP's three objectives were construction of Ram temple, wiping out of jihadi forces and
fighting forces opposed to Hindu religion and tradition.
