Help India become a developed nation: Kalam to CEOs
Friday, September 26 2003 14:43 Hrs (IST)

Kochi: President Dr A P J Abdul Kalam on September 26 made an impassioned plea to Indian entrepreneurs - both in the country and abroad - to share their knowledge and expertise to help start a "well-synchronised" economic revolution to help India become a developed nation.

Addressing over 100 CEOs (chief executive officers), who are gathered here to discuss ways to transform India into an economically secure and spiritually strong country, Dr Kalam said the "global Indian family of talented entrepreneurs should participate in this movement towards developed India, using their knowledge and experience".

Pointing out that nearly 26 per cent of the 260 million people were below poverty line, he said steps should be made to double the gross domestic product (GDP) from the present 4.5 per cent to 9 per cent.

For it, the fundamental sectoral contributors to GDP of different countries should be studied to understand how more advanced countries have transformed themselves to an "era of prosperity and strength".
