Vajpayee's UN address myopic and undignified: Pak
Friday, September 26 2003 15:17 Hrs (IST)

Islamabad: Accusing Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of distorting President Pervez Musharraf's speech at the UN General Assembly with an intention to block the current peace process, Pakistan has alleged that the Indian leader's address at the UNGA was "myopic and undignified".

Reacting to the Vajpayee's speech, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said, "Vajpayee's reaction is myopic and undignified."

The Indian leader has distorted Musharraf's comments by saying that his speech in the UNGA calling for a general cessation of hostilities in Jammu and Kashmir in return of "reciprocal obligations" amounted to admission of sponsoring terrorism from across the borders, Khan alleged.

"Vajpayee has deliberately distorted the President's statement, which is a habit with the Indian leaders. His real intent is to block resumption of dialogue with Pakistan," he was quoted as saying by the official APP news agency.

He said President Musharraf's message at the UNGA was that violence in Kashmir must spiral down for the sake of a peaceful resolution of Jammu and Kashmir issue.

By using strident and undiplomatic language, the Indian leaders want to divert attention from Human Rights violation in Kashmir, he alleged.
