Jamshedpur: Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh on September 25 night said that Congress president
Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin was no longer an issue and his party had no reservations on her
nationality.
"It is no longer an issue," he said pointing out that Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee had consulted
Sonia Gandhi on sending troops to Iraq, the Sankaracharya had been photographed with her and
Vajpayee on either side and the Supreme Court had said she was not a foreigner.
"We too have changed our stand," Amar Singh, the national general secretary of the party, said, adding
that "Sonia Gandhi was not a problem", and she was "a straightforward leader".
However, he said the opposition by a certain section of Congress leaders and its Working Committee
members against the party joining the Uttar Pradesh government was coming in the way of the SP and
Congress coming closer.
