The ultimate objective of the project was to eradicate child labour, he said on the sidelines of a two- day "Stake holders consultative workshop on child labour" organised in neighbouring Virudhunagar on September 26.

Besides the Centre, the US Labour Department would also assist in the project to be implemented in Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Kancheepuram, Namakkal and Virudhunagar.

The workshop aimed at integrating the views of all the stakeholders and experiences of the government agencies, Non Governmental Organisations (NGO), corporate sector for convergence of resources.

International Labour Organisation (ILO) had framed questionnaires for different target groups such as parents, children, labour market, employer and various others and the survey would be conducted by a professional agency.

The child labour project would be implemented by a registered district child labour rehabilitation and welfare society, comprising officials from various departments.
