Gujarat procures Rs 33,000 crore worth investment

Ahmedabad: Gujarat has procured investments worth Rs 33,000 crore with major investments coming into the petroleum and infrastructure sectors on the first day of the Global Investors' Summit on September 28.

Addressing reporters at the end of the inaugural session of the summit held as part of the ongoing "Vibrant Gujarat" celebrations held to market the strengths of the state, Chief Secretary P K Laheri said that Rs 10,400 crores worth joint sector projects have been signed with various companies in several memoranda of understanding (MoUs).

Laheri said that 125 foreigners from almost all continents, 200 Non-Resident Indians (NRI) delegates, 200 invitees and senior officers and trade commissioners were present on the first day.

Giving details, he said Reliance Industries had announced investments to the tune of Rs 9000 crore in petroleum, refinery and Information Technology sectors in the coming years.

The Chief Secretary said that among the major investors would be Torrent Power Generation Ltd that would set up a 1050 MW power project in Surat at a cost of Rs 3,800 crores while Surat Electricity Company would set up a 156 MW power project at an investment of Rs 1,200 crores.
