Mumbai: Ramanand Sagar's mythological serial 'Ramayan' has performed a hat-trick by breaking world records three times since it’s first telecast 15 years ago.

Ramanand Sagar was felicitated recently by All India Filmgoers Association for receiving three citations in Limca Book of World Records, according to a release in Mumbai.

While 'Ramayan' has been adjudged as world's most viewed mythological serial, Ramanand Sagar has been cited as the world's most awarded director and world's most awarded producer for bagging maximum honours.

With repeat telecast on 20 channels in 17 countries on all five continents at different times, Ramayan has been aired for over 2000 times. As per BBC figures, the serial has been viewed by over 650 million people worldwide of which 40 million Indians regularly watched it on its first telecast, the release said.

Ramanand Sagar, who established Sagar Arts in 1950 at Mumbai, has been bestowed with 150 awards for the serial. He was decorated with Padma Shree in 2000.

He is the most awarded producer and director of over 59 bollywood films since 1949. Altogether he has received 350 awards, the release added.
