Joshi meets PM; decision on resignation awaited
Monday, September 29 2003 14:13 Hrs (IST)
New Delhi: Murli Manohar Joshi, who resigned as Human Resource Development Minister after a Rae
Bareilly court decided to frame charges against him in the Babri masjid demolition case, met Prime
Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee on September 29.
The decision on Joshi's resignation now rests with the Prime Minister, who may also consult other
leaders.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is of the view that Joshi need not resign because the case
was "politically motivated".
After the hour-long meeting, Joshi told reporters the Prime Minister was "considering the matter".
Asked if Vajpayee, who returned on September 28 night after a 13-day trip to Turkey and New York, had
taken a decision on his resignation, he said, "I will disclose it at an appropriate time."
The minister said he had discussed the issue with the Prime Minister and had left the decision to him. "I
will wait for his decision."
