'They stripped my children and burnt them alive'

Ahmedabad: A minority community riot victim on October 1 told the two-man riot probe panel that three
out of four of his children were stripped and burnt alive by three persons who were part of a rioting mob
in Naroda Patiya area of the city on February 28 during the post-Godhra communal violence.
He alleged that his children were killed when they were evading the mob after personnel of the state
reserve police refused to protect them and drove them away.
Rehman Sayed, an electrician, deposing before the two-man commission comprising Justice (retd) G T
Nanavati and Justice (retd) K G Shah said that he witnessed the brutal killing of three of his four children
at the hands of three persons of the area whom he identified and named.
Sayed said that on the night of February 28 he heard that a mob was regrouping to attack Muslims of
the area and even as he tried to escape with his family, three persons of Chara community who were
part of an armed mob, Suresh Langda, Guddu Chara and Bhawani Singh got hold his children and burnt
them alive after disrobing them.
The riot victim said that others who were part of the mob also slit throats of other children and people
who were either unconscious or injured in the mob attack.
Sayed said that only one of his children survived the massacre and that too with 35 per cent burn
injuries.
