Bharat Shah does not have to serve jail term
Wednesday, October 1 2003 13:53 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai: Special court on October 1 sentenced film financier Bharat Shah to one year rigorous
imprisonment (RI) on the charge of facilitating extortion activities by underworld and awarded six years
jail term to producer Nasim Rizvi and his assistant Abdul Rahim Allah Baksh for extorting money from
Bollywood personalities.
As Shah has already undergone 14 months jail term, he will not be required to serve the one year
imprisonment, the court ruled.
Rizvi and Abdul Rahim were also fined Rs five lakh each under the provisions of Maharashtra Control of
Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for forging links with underworld and targeting film personalities.
The trio were convicted on September 30 by designated judge A P Bhangale, who had deferred the
matter until today, to decide the quantum of sentence.
