German President Rau condemns attack on Naidu
Thursday, October 2 2003 14:25 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: German President Johannes Rau on October 2 condemned the assassination attempt on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and hoped the culprits would be apprehended soon.

In a message, Rau said, "With great consternation have I learnt that an attempt has been made on your life and I hope you recover quickly from your injuries."

"The deed is all the more incomprehensible to me as I know you personally and have learned how under your leadership Andhra Pradesh has become an example of political and religious tolerance," a German Embassy release quoted Rau to say.

The German President said he hoped "perpetrators are rapidly apprehended and placed before a court".
