Thursday, October 2 2003 14:34 Hrs (IST)
Mumbai: In a fresh development in the recent bomb blasts cases, police October 2 arrested Zaheed
Patni, prime suspect in the July 28 Ghatkopar explosion and twin blasts of August 25, under Prevention
of terrorism Act (POTA).
He was detained on October 1 night after he arrived at the airport from Dubai, police sources said.
Patni would be produced before a court on October 3, the sources added.
He was questioned for alleged involvement in the blast prior to his arrest.
Patni arrived in Mumbai from Dubai after police warned his parents to instruct his son to cooperate or
face stern action.
He was suspected to have participated in conspiracy behind the blasts, hatched by slain terrorist Nasir.
Nasir was killed in an encounter with police recently.
Patni, who had allegedly met Nasir and Syed Mohammed Haneef in Dubai, was questioned for his
alleged complicity in the bomb blast prior to his arrest.
Haneef, his wife Fahimida and accomplice Arshat have been arrested under POTA in the July 28 bomb
blast, which killed 2 persons and injured 31 others.
Patni is also suspected to be involved in the August 25 twin bomb blasts at Zaveri Bazaar and Gateway
of India in the city that claimed 53 lives.
