CBI recovers MTNL, BSNL files from Nirvan office

New Delhi: CBI has recovered certain files pertaining to the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited
(MTNL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) from the office premises of Nirvan Management
Group, alleged to be acting as a conduit for a multi-national company in securing tenders from the two
Telecom giants.
The agency has registered a case against two officials of Nirvan Management Group, Rajiv Gupta and
Sushil Kumar Mishra, two of Bangalore-base United Telecom Limited, Dr Rao and Romy Sharma,
Tarvinder Singh of Motorola and "unknown" officials of MTNL and BSNL, a CBI spokesman said on
October 2.
Rajiv Gupta of Nirvan Group has also been charged with Section 5 of the Official Secrets Act for
allegedly possessing certain classified documents.
CBI carried out searches at the offices of Nirvan Group of Companies in Delhi and Motorola India at
Gurgaon, the spokesman said, adding during the searches some computers, a laptop, mobile phone
and files relating to MTNL and BSNL were found in the offices of Nirvan Group and Motorola, which were
under scrutiny.
He said CBI received information that the owner of the Nirvan Group was acting as middleman for
Motorola India in order to influence public servants of BSNL and MTNL and providing them illegal
gratification.
The spokesman said Nirvan group was allegedly paid a bribe of Rs 50 lakh by a Bangalore-based firm
United Telecom, which is a sub-contractor for Motorola.
The money was to be paid to Gupta to get contracts in favour of the multi-national company.
