Militants attack Cong leader's house in J&K

Jammu: Militants attacked the house of former Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee
(JKPCC) chief and MLC, Choudhary Mohammad Aslam in Poonch district while a junior commissioned
officer (JCO) and a top Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) area commander were killed in a fierce gun battle in
Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 6, official sources said.
Militants threw a grenade and fired indiscriminately on Aslam's house in Lasana area of poonch district
on October 5 night, sources said.
However, guards posted there retaliated and after the exchange of fire for an hour militants fled from the
spot, they said, adding there was no casualty in the attack.
Security has been beefed up around the house of Aslam, who was not present at the time of attack,
sources said.
One JCO and one HM militant were killed in a gun battle at Khuji forest area of Doda district, after
militants ambushed an Army patrol party late on October 5 night, they said.
In the gun battle, which was still on, JCO Dharmbeer Singh was killed and another jawan was injured
critically, they said, adding slain militant has been identified as Abu Tala, area commander of HM.
In the search operation, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, one UBGL launcher, two improvised explosive
devices (IEDs), seven grenades and one wireless set were recovered, the sources said.
