EC announces election schedules for 5 states

New Delhi: Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Delhi will be held on
December 1 and Mizoram on November 20.
Announcing the poll schedule, Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh told reporters that the
counting of votes for Mizoram would be held on December 2 and for other states on December 4.
Lyngdoh said notifications for holding polls in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Delhi would be issued on November 7 and for Mizoram on October 27.
Nominations for Mizoram would begin on November 3 and for other states on November 14, he said,
adding scrutiny of papers would be conducted on November 4 for Mizoram and for other states on November 15.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature for Mizoram will be November 6 and for other states November 17.
Lyngdoh said for the first time, proxy voting would be implemented for Armed Forces personnel in addition to the existing postal ballot facility.
The Commission has also decided to hold by-elections to three Assembly seats in Bihar – Sitamarhi, Satwa, Barachapti and two seats in Uttar Pradesh – Mahsi and Harora on November 20.
