Breakaway Hurriyat chief detained in JK under PSA
Tuesday, October 7 2003 10:39 Hrs (IST)

Srinagar: Police picked up separatist leader of the breakaway Hurriyat group Masrat Alam in Srinagar last on October 6 night for alleged unlawful activities, official sources said.

Alam was immediately detained under Public Safety Act (PSA), they said.

He is the second separatist leader of the breakaway faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani to be detained under PSA. Earlier, National Front chairman Nayeem Khan was detained under the same Act in September.

It may be mentioned that Alam was made interim chairman after the rebel group parted ways with the separatist amalgam, which was under the chairmanship of Maulvi Abbas Ansari.
