Siliguri: A Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) activist, Nasiruddin Haq was arrested at
Gitaldah in Coochbehar district of North Bengal, bordering Bangladesh, by Border Security Force (BSF)
in the wee hours of October 7, North Bengal Frontier of BSF sources said.
The additional deputy inspector general of BSF, S S Sandhu said three more MULTA ultras were
subsequently arrested at Barpeta in Assam on the basis of interrogation of Haq on October 7.
He said Haq was arrested for conspiring against the state and handed over to Coochbehar police, while
three others in Barpeta were arrested in joint raids by BSF and Assam police and booked under Arms
Act.
During interrogation, Haq divulged that he used to carry arms from Lalmunirhat in Bangladesh to
Barpeta for Multa and earn Rs 3,000 per trip. The conductor of a particular Assam bus used to carry the
arms to Barpeta against Rs 5,000 per trip who was now absconding, Sandhu said.
He said MULTA had already received five trips of fire arms, which included AK range of rifles, pistols,
improvised devices and bomb making materials.
Quoting Haq, Sandhu said Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan was funding Multa to purchase fire
arms and MULTA itself was also raising fund by extortion in Assam for quite some time.
