Wednesday, October 8 2003 20:47 Hrs (IST)

Poonch (Jammu): At least 15 Pakistani soldiers were feared killed and several wounded when Indian troops, in a retaliatory strike, smashed their post across the border along Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district on October 8, Defence sources said.

A forward Pakistani post opposite Degwar area in Poonch was destroyed when Indian troops replied effectively to silence their guns, the sources said.

Fifteen Pakistani soldiers were killed and several wounded in the Indian action prompted by intermittent shelling of several forward locations and civilians areas in Poonch district.

"Our jawans at the observation post saw ambulances carrying the dead and wounded on the Pakistani side," the sources said.
