Mayawati blames Vajpayee for CBI raids on her houses
Wednesday, October 8 2003 14:04 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on October 8 held Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee responsible for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids against her and demanded an "independent enquiry" into the assets of his foster daughter and son-in-law.

Soon after CBI conducted raids at her residences in Delhi and Lucknow, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader, fuming with anger, told reporters that the investigating agency personnel failed to recover anything incriminating from these raids.

She, however, alleged that the CBI seized Rs 5.5 lakhs collected by poor party workers for the medical treatment of Kanshi Ram, despite pleas that the money should not be touched as it was intended to pay his hospital bills.
