SC declines direction to notify Delhi Rent Control Act

New Delhi: Supreme Court on October 8 declined to issue a direction to the Union government to notify Delhi Rent Control Act, which was passed by Parliament and given assent to by the President in 1995.

A Bench comprising Justice R C Lahoti and Justice Ashok Bhan dismissed the petition filed by 'Common Cause' (a non-governmental organisation) seeking a direction to the government for notification of the Act to assuage the hardships of lakhs of tenants in the national capital.
