Wednesday, October 8 2003 10:17 Hrs (IST)
London: In a countrywide drive against illegal migrants from India and those allegedly involved in human
trafficking, police in Britain on October 7 raided selected places arresting 27 people, including a 37-year-
old man from Gujarat.
Kent police raided a number of addresses in East London as part of investigations into the smuggling of
illegal immigrants and arrested a man from Gujarat.
The raids, which followed two separate international probes involving police from Britain, France and
Germany, were also carried out in Shropshire county, North West England and neighbouring Welsh
region of Powys.
Of the 17 addresses raided in North West England and Wales, 12 were take-away food outlets police
said, adding over 100 officials were involved in the exercise.
Detective inspector Roy Cottam of Kent Police said, "The arrests are the culmination of a long operation
during which we worked closely with colleagues from German Police identifying routes and methods
used by traffickers."
