Mumbai: Veteran film actor Anupam Kher, who has been newly appointed as the Censor Board Chief, on
October 9 said it was a great honour coupled with a deep sense of responsibility.
"This is a great honour bestowed upon me and I feel it has brought along a tremendous sense of
responsibility," Kher, also a prominent theatre personality, told reporters in Mumbai.
"I am looking forward to the post as a positive aspect of life and I am very optimistic about my new job,"
he said.
"However, it will not be an individual effort, I will be working with an advisory board, drawn of people from
various walks of life and I hope that my team and I will come forth with some positive work," he
added.
To a question whether the job entails moral policing, he said, "Who is talking about moral policing? The
country has given every individual the freedom of expression but at the same time the act also carries a
set of restrictions."
"There have been certain norms laid down long back and which have been subsequently revised," he
said.
To a query whether the new censor chief would be a "liberal" one, he said, "It depends upon how one
interprets liberal. One has to strike a balance. I feel a filmmaker must
be comfortable but at the same time, he or she cannot forget the ethos and value system of the
country," he added.
