Friday, October 10 2003 14:02 Hrs (IST)

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav was on October 10 re-elected the national president of the party for the third time in a row.

The re-election of Yadav was announced by party's national returning officer Ramachandra Purve at the inaugural session of the RJD two-day national convention, which began in Patna on October 10.

Purve declared that Laloo was the only candidate to file nomination for the post and hence he was declared elected unopposed.

Laloo, who is the founder president of the party that came into existence in 1997, was elected RJD national president for the first time in 1999.

According to the party constitution, the tenure of the party presidentship is for two years and there is no restriction of chance for a candidate for any party post.
