Kathmandu: International criminal Charles Sobhraj was on October 10 remanded to custody till October
13 by a court in Kathmandu to facilitate further investigations in a case relating to possession of double
passport and travelling on a fake identity.
Sobhraj, 59, will have to stay at district police office at Hanumandhoka till October 13, as the Immigration
Department is likely to formally register a case against him for violating immigration laws the next day,
legal officer at the Immigration Department Sambhu Marasini said.
Sobhraj was produced before the district court on October 10 morning by the Department asking for
extension of his detention as the investigations are not yet complete, he added.
"We are verifying the documents and we will most probably file a case against him under the Immigration
Act on October 14. We cannot say for sure what will happen to him unless the investigations are
complete," Marasini said.
Sobhraj, who was arrested from a Kathmandu casino on September 19, is also wanted for the killing of
two foreign tourists in 1975. However, Sobhraj has denied the charges saying that he never visited
Kathmandu before.
