Ayodhya: About 1,000 Shiv Sena activists were on October 11 arrested while trying to proceed towards the venue of their proposed Ram Bhakt Sammelan in Ayodhya banned by Uttar Pradesh government.

Police sources said the arrests were made when Shiv Sena activists tried to breach the heavy security cordon and make it to the Ram Katha Park for the party sponsored meet.

On October 10 police arrested party MPs Chandrakant Khaire and Shivaji Mane and state unit chief Vijay Tiwari along with 100 activists at Ram Snehi Ghat, 90 kms from Lucknow while on way for the banned meet.

Tight security arrangements were in place and prohibitory orders clamped in the district in view of the Shiv Sena meet and VHP's (Vishwa Hindu Parishad) proposed Ayodhya march on October 31.
