Sunday, October 12 2003 16:06 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Army Chief N C Vij on October 12 said installation of surveillance devices along Line of Control (LOC) coupled with intensified patrolling had resulted in foiling a record number of infiltration bids in Jammu and Kashmir.

Winding up a three-day visit to the Border State, he complimented Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and police personnel for their "untiring and relentless efforts" in fighting terrorism, an Army release said in New Delhi.

Vij also reviewed progress on selective fencing being undertaken on LOC.

He also met Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to discuss the security situation in the state and reviewed the conduct of counter-insurgency operations.
