Mani Sanker Iyer's car attacked by AIADMK men

Kumbakonam: Congress MP from Myiladuthurai Mani Sanker Iyer's car was allegedly attacked by
suspected All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) men, at Vanchur near Karaikal region
of Pondicherry, while he was returning from a function in which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa
launched various developmental project for Nagapattinam district.
Iyer, however, managed to escape without injuries but his car was damaged, police sources
said.
Iyer then reached Karaikal and was later to go to Pondicherry, the sources said, adding that Iyer's office
at Mayiladuthurai was also attacked.
The reason for the attack was suspected to be the argument that occurred between him and the Chief
Minister over an article written by Iyer two years ago in reference to the donation of an elephant made
by Jayalalithaa to a temple at Kerala.
Meanwhile, Congress Party sources said Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) working president E
V K S Elangovan contacted All India Congress Committee (AICC) chief Sonia Gandhi and apprised her
of the attack.
