Karunakaran meets Sonia; demands Antony's removal
Monday, October 13 2003 22:55 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: Taking his "remove Antony" campaign to the high command, senior Congress leader K Karunakaran on October 13 night met party chief Sonia Gandhi and demanded his sacking saying there was no future for the Congress so long as he continued at the helm of the affairs in the state.

"That demand stands. It is a must. It was mentioned several times during my meeting with the party chief," Karunakaran told reporters after about 45-minute meeting with Gandhi at her residence.

The Kerala strongman, who refused to talk to newsmen outside Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence, later told reporters at his residence that he met the party president and apprised her about the political situation in the state as also steps to be taken to resolve it.
