Putrajaya (Malaysia): Muslim nations on October 13 urged the United States to announce a specific time
frame to install a democratically elected government in Iraq.
"The occupying powers must work in earnest on a time table for a democratically elected government to
be installed within a reasonably prompt time frame," Malaysian Foreign
Minister Syed Hamid Albar said inaugurating the foreign ministers meet of the Organisation of Islamic
Conference (OIC).
Condemning the Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip, Albar demanded Tel Aviv immediately cease its military
incursion and all acts of violence, terror, provocation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
He also asked Israel to withdraw all threats against Palestine Authority President Yasser Arafat.
On Israeli strikes in Syria, Albar said, "This blatant act of aggression against Syria, a fellow member of
the OIC, must be condemned in the strongest terms as provocative, arrogant and dangerous."
"The OIC members countries must extend their full and undivided support and stand in solidarity with the
government and people of Syria as well as government and people of
Lebanon," he said.
Qatar Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr Al-Thani said Muslim states needed to push for a
specific timetable for ending the US occupation of Iraq.
"It is our duty to provide the necessary support to the Iraqi people, and proclaim our attachment to Iraq's
unity, territorial integrity and the right to self-determination," he said.
